Activities at Elvaston

You can play bowls at any level, ranging from league matches through friendlies against other clubs to the informal club sessions held two or three times each week. Members also have free use of the green at any time, weather and green maintenance permitting.  We also hold social events such as quizzes and coffee mornings.

On 25 April we shall be holding an Open Day, linked to our annual Coffee Morning
You're very welcome to pop in any time between 10.00 and 16.00.

An Old Man's Game?  Never!
Bowls really is a game for all ages - in fact many of the best players are very young.  It's just that you can carry on playing until you're much older - good exercise and great fun! Men and women play on an equal footing, with no handicap system.

Find out more about the basics of the game in our guide to bowls.  And if you want to learn about particular aspects in a bit more detail try our blog on how to improve your bowls.
What Does it Cost?
Membership costs (2020) are £85 for adults and zero for juniors.

New bowlers are offered half-price membership, in addition to four free coaching sessions during May. Contact us to find out more.  Or...

Help and Advice
Many of our members learned to play at Elvaston, and would  be happy to pass on tips, or help with practice. Any excuse to get on the green!
Getting into Gear
All you need to start playing is a pair of flat-soled shoes.  We can supply bowls, etc.  More formal matches do require white tops and grey below the waist (it's the same at any bowls club). Team members wear a club shirt for league or cup matches.
Most bowls matches take about two hours.  Our informal club sessions on Saturday involve three sessions of about an hour each, with a cup of tea before the last one. .
